Our model results from a collaborative effort with Connect 2, which includes the expertise of trainer and behaviour specialist Jack Cudworth and Clinical psychologist Dr. Liz Gillet. Our model is developed from consistent, empathic, insightful, and connected responses to a child’s distress and unmet needs. This allows the child to begin to self-regulate, develop an understanding of their needs, and ultimately form positive attachments and minimize the impact of distress.

Our model focuses on emotional regulation, helping children connect while building consistent and predictable relationships. These relationships are supported by realistic boundaries, routines, and structures provided by self-regulated adults at Aspire and Thrive. Our adult colleagues play a crucial role in creating psychologically safe personal, emotional, and cognitive growth environments. Our practice includes capacity building, developing skills, and then planning and sequencing therapeutic, educational, and enrichment activities that match the needs and strengths of children and young people.

Our approach is planned to guide the developing journey of the young mind. We aim to reduce the sense of distressed minds and move towards healthier wellbeing. This leads to improved communication, confidence in emotional regulation, and overall well-being.

Our clinically informed, theoretical practice enables our adult colleagues and the whole mentoring group to hold adversity and early life trauma in mind by drawing on psychological expertise and hands-on experiences that underpin our therapeutic mentoring provision.
